Social Content Management (SCM)?

Funny how you can take CMS (Content Management System) and move the letters around and get to SCM (Social Content Management).

In checking out the latest presentation by Jyri Engestrom (Google) on "Building Sites Around Social Objects" I really get a sense that the industry is coming full circle.  As Dion Hinchcliffe would say, we are doing the same things in new ways.  A few years back (more than 10) John Seely Brown came out with a book called the Social Life of Information which I think was a precursor to all of what social media is talking about now.  Objects and things and information has a social context in which they are defined and used.

And so how does it relate to SCMs?  Well, I think if Jyri is right, that successful social sites exist because of the objects they house and steward (which I think he is right), then maybe in a few months instead of CMSs will start hearing about SCMs.

How long will it take?
